The seminar focused on United Nations mechanisms for the protection of human rights, the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The seminar, which was held on 16 April 2017, was attended by 51 students (23 females and 28 males).
Dr. Kanaan Hama Gharib, the Dean of the College of Law and Politics at the Human Development University, thanked HRO-UNAMI for organizing the seminar and stressed the importance of cooperation between the Human Development University and UNAMI. He expressed appreciation for the continued technical support provided by HRO and stated that the college stands ready to conduct joint activities with HRO in the field of human rights.
Bestun Jabbar, a student from the second level at the Department of Diplomacy and Public Relations, stated that the seminar was a great opportunity for students to gain knowledge about international mechanisms of protection and how UNAMI supports academic institutions in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq.
At the end of the seminar, HRO provided copies of the booklet “Nine Core International Human Rights Treaties” in the Kurdish language to the University’s library and to students who participated in the seminar.
HRO has conducted similar activities jointly with public and private universities in the Kurdistan Region, including the Colleges of Law and Arts in Salahadin University, the College of Law and International Relations in Cihan University, the Newroz University and the American University of Iraq in Sulaimaniyah.
