15 May is the International Day of Families which aims to highlight the importance of the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development (SDG4) through promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence.
Unfortunately, in Iraq around 3 million people are still living in camps. As a crucial enabling step before initiating a safe rebuilding process and bringing families together again, explosive hazards must be found and cleared.
The situation in Iraq needs UNMAS experts to ensure the safety of civilians returning to their communities. UNMAS, active in Iraq since 2015, in coordination with the Government of Iraq and through its implementing partners is enabling stabilization efforts and humanitarian activities in country.
