Baqouba, Iraq, 23 September 2019 - Under the theme “Iraqi Youth: Pioneers for Dialogue and Stability”, the 11th in a series of workshops to gauge the views and concerns of youth across the country took place in Diyala Governorate on 20-22 September 2019. The workshop was organised by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), in cooperation with the Committee for Coexistence and Societal Peace under the Prime Minister’s Office and the Iraqi Al-Amal Association.

Youth of Iraq & Peacebuilding: Catalysts for Change

Baghdad, Iraq; 23 September 2019 – Investing in young people can help put countries on a path to accelerated economic growth and equitable development. To that end, the Swedish government and the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), in collaboration with UNFPA, have launched an initiative to train exceptional young men and women of Iraq on the principles of inclusive dialogue in peacebuilding.

Security Council unanimously extends mandate of UNITAD

Baghdad, Iraq, 20 September 2019 – The Security Council remains united and resolute in its support of the work carried out by the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD), as members today unanimously voted to extend its mandate for another year, until 21 September 2020.

Jalawla – During the ISIL crisis in Iraq, 3.5 million people were displaced from their homes. Since Iraq declared victory over ISIL in December 2017, nearly 1.5 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned to their locations of origin.

Mosul, 19 September 2019 -The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) formally inaugurated its offices in Mosul at a ceremony attended by local government officials, senior UNAMI staff, UN Agencies and partners, establishing a continuing presence in the Ninewa Governorate and pledging to strengthen its support to the local communities and authorities in this period of post-conflict recovery.
