15 November 2016, Iraq - The total number of individuals currently displaced in the Mosul emergency now tops 56,400 according to data released today (15/11) by IOM Iraq’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Emergency Tracking. Since military operations to retake Mosul from ISIL began last month, IOM Iraq tracking shows population movement away from the combat zone has more than doubled in the past ten days, from 22,224 on 4 November to 56,412 last night.

A new initiative is being launched today (Tuesday 15 November) aiming to help families who’ve been newly-displaced as a result of the Mosul offensive get easier access to accurate and timely information.

13-Nov-2016: Tens of thousands of Iraqis have been-newly displaced as a result of the current military offensive in Mosul. But even greater numbers of Iraqis, displaced since May as a result of conflict in Anbar Governorate, continue to live in very difficult conditions, unable to return home.

Iraq, 11 November 2016 - An IOM Iraq mobile medical team based in Erbil travelled to the sprawling Hasan Sham camp for Iraqis displaced by the fighting near Mosul every day this week, visiting a facility that has swelled to over 1,700 families (10,200 individuals) since October 17, when military operations in Mosul began.

8 November 2016, Iraq - IOM Iraq today (08/11) reports its displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Emergency Tracking identified 34,860 displaced Iraqis from Mosul and adjacent districts – up from 34,038 reported Monday – since military operations to retake Mosul began on 17 October, with significant population movements seen this past weekend.

Erbil, Iraq, 4 November 2016 - UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, has opened a new camp in Hasansham to house newly-displaced Iraqi families fleeing the military offensive in Mosul. Some 3,000 people were received at the camp today and all families are being allocated a tent and receiving assistance. At present 450 tents – enough to shelter 2,700 people – are available and 500 tents will be erected per day to house additional arrivals. The camp will be able to house 1,800 families, almost 11,000 people.

Iraq, 4 November 2016 - The IOM Iraq Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) today (04/11) recorded a total of 22,224 individuals displaced by fighting in the Mosul region that began on October 17.

BAGHDAD/NEW YORK, 3 November 2016 – Some 20,700 people have been displaced since the operation to retake Mosul started on 17 October. UNICEF estimates that 9,700 of them are children in urgent need of assistance.

In light of increasing risks of disease epidemics and life-threatening health conditions among displaced populations from Mosul, WHO has established 82 Rapid Response Teams to provide left-saving health services and respond to public health threats.

Baghdad, Iraq, 2 November 2016 - UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has this week begun distributing essential winter items to 1.2 million displaced Iraqis, including families recently displaced due to the current Mosul offensive, and to communities across Iraq that are hosting them. A total of 178,000 Syrian refugees will also benefit. The distributions come even though UNHCR’s winter assistance programme, budgeted at $120 m, is just half-funded with a $60 million funding gap.
