Erbil, 27 February 2017 - UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, with its partners has provided legal assistance to help more than two and a half thousand Iraqis displaced as a result of the Mosul offensive receive new civil identity cards and other documents that were lost, damaged or destroyed as they fled their homes seeking safety.

24 February 2017 Iraq - When they return to their home communities, Iraqis displaced by the current crisis face a host of challenges, including the destruction of infrastructure, housing and property. Access to basic services, availability of drinking water, food, health care, shelter and livelihood opportunities are all ongoing sources of concern.

BAGHDAD, 22 February 2017 – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of US$7 million from the Government of Japan, which will be used to provide vital food assistance to thousands of Iraqi families affected by the ongoing crisis in Mosul as well as Syrian refugees living in camps in Iraq.

17 February 2017, Iraq - As military operations to retake Mosul intensify, concerns mount that these operations may displace additional tens of thousands of civilians – beyond the 160,000-plus individuals currently categorized as “displaced” in the Mosul region after four months of combat.

(Baghdad, 18 February 2017): With military operations to retake western Mosul beginning, humanitarian organizations are warning that tens of thousands of families are at extreme risk. Recent surveys with key informants confirm that food and fuel supplies are dwindling, markets and shops have closed, running water is scarce and electricity in many neighborhoods is either intermittent or cut off.

Erbil, Iraq, 15.02.2017: With a new phase in the Mosul offensive poised to begin, Iraq’s Humanitarian Coordinator, Lise Grande, toured UNHCR’s Hasansham U3 displacement camp and the government-built Khazer M1 camp, east of Mosul, where UNHCR has also provided support and distributed emergency items.

Baghdad, Iraq 15.02.2017: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has welcomed the announcement of nearly $17m in extra funding for its work by the Government of Japan. The funding will allow UNHCR to expand the provision of emergency items, shelter and cash assistance to Iraqi families displaced from Mosul conflict and to Syrian refugees.
