GENEVA (12 August 2014) – A group of United Nations human rights experts today expressed their grave concern at the imminent danger of massacre faced by the Yazidi population forced to flee Sinjar in northern Iraq and other minority communities currently exposed to attacks by members of the ‘Islamic State’ (IS, (formerly known as ISIS).
BAGHDAD/GENEVA (18 July 2014) – A UN report released Friday documents a litany of serious human rights violations committed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and associated armed groups between 5 June and 5 July, including some that may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. The report also documents violations committed by Iraqi security forces (ISF) and associated forces.
Baghdad, 22 January 2014 – Head of the European Union Delegation in Iraq, Ambassador Jana Hybáškova, and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, today launched the “Capacity Building of the Human rights Related Committees in the Council of Representatives and the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights”.
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights released the Half Yearly Report on Human Rights, covering the period from January to June 2013.
