Baghdad, 27 October 2016 – On the 16th anniversary of United Nations Security Council resolution 1325, a high level conference was held in Baghdad that primarily assessed progress made towards implementing the Iraqi National Action Plan on 1325.

GENEVA (28 October 2016) – Credible reports suggest that ISIL has been forcing tens of thousands of people from their homes in sub-districts around Mosul and has been forcibly relocating civilians inside the city itself since operations began on 17 October to restore Iraqi Government control over Mosul.

Erbil, 20 October, 2016 – UNICEF this week managed to reach Al Houd, a town just south of Mosul that was retaken by Iraqi security forces just two days prior, and deliver clean water to some of the thousands of families that have been caught up in this conflict.
GENEVA (21 October 2016) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein called for the protection of civilians to be at the forefront of military planning as the Iraqi Government and associated forces attempt to re-take Mosul, amid reports that fighters from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, ISIL, are using civilians as human shields.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and its partners in Duhok have begun to help the first influx of displaced Iraqis fleeing villages near Mosul, as a government offensive to re-take Iraq’s second-largest city continues.
