“The victims of ISIL are afraid and need our help”

(Erbil, 13 September 2015): The recent arrival of tens of thousands of refugees to Europe from across the region confirms the dire humanitarian conditions millions of Iraqis now face. “Tens of thousands of Iraqis have fled the conflict for the safety of Europe and hundreds of thousands could follow unless much more is done to alleviate the suffering of the more than 8 million men, women and children in Iraq who need our help,” United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, Ms. Lise Grande, said.

6 August 2015,ERBIL – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced this week that following a comprehensive assessment of the food security and vulnerability status of Syrian refugees living in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, it will focus its resources on the most vulnerable people.

Amman, 25 June 2015: A shortage of funds is hampering humanitarian and development assistance efforts to meet the needs of 3.9 million refugees who have fled the conflict in Syria, as well as more than 20 million people in affected local communities hosting them in neighbouring countries, according to a report released today.

VIENNA, 20 June (UN Information Service) - On this World Refugee Day, let us remember the plight of the millions of people worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of conflict and persecution.  At the end of 2014, 59.5 million persons - the highest number on record - were forcibly displaced around the globe.  This means that one in every 122 human beings today is either a refugee, internally displaced or seeking asylum.

World Refugee Day

20 June 2015: The world we live in today has more people displaced by conflict than at any time since the Second World War. According to UNHCR’s recently released annual Global Trends report, last year saw the highest displacement on record. By end 2014, 59.5 million individuals were forcibly displaced worldwide as a result of persecution, conflict, generalized violence, or human rights violations.

UN Envoy marks World Refugee Day

Baghdad 20 June 2015 - Today marks the annual commemoration of World Refugee Day, which is earmarked by the United Nations as a day of solidarity with the world's refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Iraq -IOM Iraq’s report “Iraqi Returnees from Syria Following the 2011 Syria Crisis” published this week, assesses the living conditions of Iraqis who fled to Syria to escape violence and persecution in Iraq and later, since 2011, returned to Iraq, seeking refuge from the civil conflict in Syria.
