SRSG Kubiš condemns Tuz Khurmatu bombing

Baghdad, 22 November 2017 – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Ján Kubiš, strongly condemned the deadly car bomb attack in the town of Tuz Khurmatu, Salah El Din Province, on Tuesday, 21 November, in which scores of civilians were killed or wounded.

Mosul – To strengthen government-run health facilities in the wake of the Mosul crisis, IOM Iraq has donated medical equipment and supplies valued at approximately USD 500,000 to Al-Salam Teaching Hospital in east Mosul.

Baghdad, 21 November 2017 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) acknowledges the Iraq Federal Supreme Court’s Decision of 20 November 2017 concerning the Kurdish independence referendum.

Dohuk, Iraq, 19 November 2017 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office launched a training course in Dohuk for journalists, media workers and civil society activists in the field of freedom of opinion and expression in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

NEW YORK, 20 November 2017 – Despite global progress, 1 in 12 children worldwide live in countries where their prospects today are worse than those of their parents, according to a UNICEF analysis conducted for World Children’s Day.

Erbil, 19 November 2017- the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office (HRO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education in Kurdistan Region of Iraq organized a four-day training course in Erbil for 23 teacher, including 9 females, during 13 – 16 November on human rights education.

Ensuring accountability for most serious crimes, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) continues to provide advice on the process of establishing a national specialized criminal court for the most serious crimes in Iraq. Baghdad, 20 November 2017 – Years of conflict have severely curtailed the rights of children in Iraq. Their rights to protection from violence, education and access to safe drinking water are under assault from nearly every direction.

Baghdad, Iraq, 15 November 2017 – As part of its support to strengthen service delivery for universal health coverage in Iraq, and in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 to achieve universal health coverage by 2030, WHO supported a 4-day training of trainers course.
