UNHCR and its partners have been providing assistance for families who have fled their homes in Kirkuk and other disputed areas pre-emptively over the past few days, fearing large-scale clashes.

UN Security Council Press Statement on Kirkuk

The members of the Security Council expressed concern over recent reports of violence near the city of Kirkuk, Iraq.

(Baghdad, 17 October 2017): In the past 48 hours, an estimated 61,200 people have been displaced in areas around Kirkuk. Humanitarian partners have dispatched mobile health clinics and are providing hot meals and food parcels to families who have fled. In coming days, partners will be providing 3,000 emergency food rations and hygiene items to families sheltering in public spaces.

Baghdad, 17 October 2017 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) welcomes a renewed contribution of EUR 500,000 from the Government of Italy for UNMAS 2017 programme activities in Iraq. The support will facilitate humanitarian partners access to areas retaken from Da’esh, assist the stabilization process and allow for the safe return of displaced persons to their communities.

Baghdad, 17 October 2017 - The Government of the Republic of Korea and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a partnership agreement today for US$4 million to support stabilization and recovery in newly liberated areas in Iraq.

Baghdad, 16 October 2017 - The Ministry of Agriculture in Iraq, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, celebrated the World Food Day under the patronage of H.E.
