UNAMI Human Rights Office conducts Human Rights Advocacy training to the Norwegian Refugee Council

Erbil, 26 May 2021: On 25 and 26 May 2021, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office conducted a two-day training workshop for the staff of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Iraq who work on human rights issues.

Fourteen participants (nine female and five male) from Anbar, Diyala, Dohuk, Erbil, Khanaqin, Kirkuk, and Mosul attended the capacity building workshop. The aim of the training was to familiarize participants with human rights advocacy with a focus on how to develop an evidence based human rights advocacy strategy and understanding the different types of human rights advocacy.

The training also focused on how to conduct a human rights analysis so as to design an effective advocacy strategy.

The training was participatory in nature and included plenary discussions, case studies and role plays. Participants were given exercises to do as part of the training which included designing advocacy messages and how to identify advocacy targets.
