Protection of civilians remains a top priority in the Battle of Mosul, as Iraqi government forces continue their push to recapture the second largest Iraqi city from the extremist group, ISIL or Da’esh, according to Ján Kubiš, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq. Mr. Kubiš was speaking to UN News Service, shortly after addressing the UN Security Council on situation in Iraq and the month-long operation by Iraqi security forces to retake Mosul.

Victories against ISIL in Iraq "unifying" people
A series of victories against terrorists in Iraq is a "unifying factor" for the conflict-ridden country, according to the UN's most senior representative there.

Hundreds of displaced Iraqis forced to flee their homes due to conflict have been treated to an oud concert at a camp in Baghdad by world-renowned musician, Naseer Shamma.
