Baghdad, 17 December 2018 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Iraq welcomes a contribution of NOK 15M (approximately USD 1.7 M) from the Kingdom of Norway to support explosive hazards management activities in urban liberated areas in Iraq, enabling humanitarian and stabilization efforts.

Baghdad, 14 October 2017 – Humanitarian partners are ramping up assistance to tens of thousands of vulnerable people in the Nineveh Plains.


Operating in one of the most severe and complex crises in the world, the Iraq IDP Information Centre (Iraq IIC)—a free hotline for displaced Iraqis to access information about humanitarian assistance, request assistance, raise complaints and provide feedback on the humanitarian response provided by aid agencies—handled its 100,000th call in September. The call marks a milestone in humanitarian efforts to establish a coordinated hotline and to promote accountability to displaced communities in Iraq.

Baghdad, 19-9-2017: The Government of Japan has announced emergency funding of $4.5 million dollars to support UNHCR’s humanitarian assistance for families affected by the Mosul crisis.

Erbil, 7 May 2017 - The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) welcomes a contribution of USD 9.7 million from the Government of Japan to address the shelter needs for those affected by the ongoing crisis in Iraq. The contribution allows UN-Habitat to continue the rehabilitation of damaged houses in areas liberated from the ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL),’ and to establish temporary shelters for vulnerable displaced persons whose houses are being reconstructed.
